Education consultations

The Local Authority works in partnership with schools, governors, parents and other key stakeholders to develop and improve education for all in the county.

As part of this process you are welcome to express your views on the consultations and public notices listed below. Details of how to do this are given in the individual documents. In addition you can also contact the Schools Service or your local councillor as appropriate.

Catchment Area Review

The authority has recently reviewed the school catchment areas across the authority in order to ensure that there is sufficient space for children to be able to attend their local school from the 2017/18 academic year and in the foreseeable future.  As a result of the review, the authority is considering some changes and in order to ensure that any decisions made are in the best interests of the community, the views of parents of the affected schools are being requested.

The proposed changes affect the catchment areas of:

Welsh-medium primary schools
English-medium primary schools

If these changes are agreed, they will come into effect for admission applications for the academic year 2017/18 and beyond. This will not affect the school place of any pupils attending these schools currently but the revised catchment areas, if agreed, will be used to assist with the allocation of places from September 2017 onwards.

Consultation Closes 29th January, 2016.

School Admission Policy 2018/19

In accordance with the Education Determination of Admission Arrangements (Wales) Regulations 2006, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is consulting on the Admission Policy for 2018/19.

Attached is a copy of the authority's draft Admission Policy for 2018/19 which includes details of the capacity and admission number of the community schools.

The consultation period closes on 16th January, 2017, so I would be grateful to receive any comments you may have by this date. Comments can be sent to: Mrs H Griffiths, School Access and Admissions Officer, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Unit 5, Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 4TQ or by email to helen.griffiths@merthyr.gov.uk
